Salisbury’s Alarm Engineering is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year with an appreciation program for loyal customers.

“It has turned out to be very popular,” said Ron Boltz, president and CEO. Many customers have received a complete, free upgrade because their credits were higher than the cost of the upgrade.

“We also have several charter customers, ones that have been with us since the beginning, in 1985. Each of those clients will be receiving some free service and a special thank you from us for their business,” he said.

“Our existing customers can receive a credit of $50 for each year they have been with Alarm Engineering, for use toward upgrading their systems. For example, someone with a system we installed 20 years ago has a $1,000 credit toward upgrading to today’s technology, which includes features like remote home automation and control, lighting, locks, thermostats, cameras, etc. The security systems we install now provide automation and control of the entire home, all from your smart phone or tablet. We designed this program to serve as a thank you to our long-term customers,” he said.

While technology is necessary, Boltz said the company focuses on customers.

“Our business isn’t rocket science.  It’s all about the customer.  Treat your customers and your employees well, and they both tend to stick with you,” he said.

“We are very fortunate to have a team of top-notch people who are not only security professionals and experts in their field, but who also truly care about the customer and building that long term relationship of trust,” he said.

The company’s website has an upbeat message, praise for employees and a promise that it has developed “a reputation for integrity, reliability, and quality with our emphasis on superior service to our customers.”

That won’t change, even as strides are made in technology.

“Today’s sensors, devices, appliances, are all much more intelligent than they used to be, and are all interconnected. We’ve been installing the brains of the home or business — the alarm system — for many years.  Now we are connecting those systems to other items like lights, thermostats, locks, window shades, garage door and smart phones, to automate certain outcomes based on activity,” he said.

It’s now possible, using location services on a cell phone, “to make sure that when you leave for work, your thermostat adjusts to a more efficient setting, lights turn off, the garage door closes and the alarm system arms, all automatically, and for a much lower cost than just a few years ago,” Boltz said.

During the next 10 years, Boltz said he expects systems and sensors to become even more intelligent.

“Video is becoming more affordable and ubiquitous all the time, and will become a standard feature in most alarm systems.  Imagine your home security system including 10 to 12 tiny video drones that launch upon alarm and scan the entire property, capturing detailed, high-quality video of the perpetrators, while pursuing them and transmitting location data to the central monitoring station,” he said.

“The technology exists. Making it affordable is always the next step.”
