Police make murder arrest, probe another killing

Three deaths in recent days – two by gunfire and one caused by an accident at controversial Sixty Foot Road – have left the community reeling.

The grandson of a Salisbury City Council member, already jailed for an unrelated incident, was charged with the home invasion and killing of a man on April 3. Meantime, police continue to investigate a May 11 shooting that claimed the life of a 21-year-old man whose body was found in an apartment complex stairwell.

Shaquille Gaskins, 22, is accused of killing Irvonte Jones on April 3. He was charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, possession of a firearm, use of a firearm in a violent crime and home invasion, police said.

They said Jones, 24, of Salisbury, was shot to death at the home of his girlfriend.

Police said they were called to a home in the 1000-block of Pierce Avenue in Salisbury for a reported shooting. When they arrived, Jones was lying in the bedroom and was not responsive.

Gaskins is the grandson of Councilwoman April Jackson, who declined comment when contacted.

In another incident early Wednesday, 21-year-old Keonte Gaskins was found lying in a stairwell at the Village of Mitchell Pond Apartment Complex on Parsons Road.

Police said he had no fixed address and was discovered by residents who called 911.

His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy, to determine the cause of death, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information should call 410-548-1776.

60 Foot Road

The car crash, early Sunday, at the Sixty Foot Road intersection that has developed a reputation for being dangerous, claimed the life of 71-year-old Margaret Ann Joiner of Rehoboth Beach.

Joiner’s husband, 71-year-old Mark Douglas Joiner, was driving east on Route 50, attempting to turn north onto Sixty Foot Road while crossing Route 50 westbound, police said.

A car driven by 70-year-old Patricia Ford Milutin of Princess Anne was heading west on Route 50 and struck the Joiner vehicle as it was turning onto Sixty Foot Road, police said.

Mark Joiner and 78-year-old Rudy Lucian Milutin of Princess Anne, a passenger in the Milutin vehicle, were taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Milutin was later flown to Shock Trauma, police said.

Patricia Milutin was admitted to PRMC, police said.
