Two people killed in Wicomico boating accident

Two people were killed last weekend after a boat collided with a dock on the Wicomico River, according to Lt. Catherine Medellin of the Maryland Natural Resources Police.

Six people were onboard the 20-foot Bayliner boat when it hit the dock near Safe Harbor Way in Fruitland around 9 p.m. on Saturday.

Medellin said the boat operator swerved to avoid the pier, and three passengers were ejected.

One person was recovered, but two of the passengers were missing when rescue personnel from Fruitland arrived on the scene. Their bodies were later recovered by a Salisbury Fire Department dive team.

The names of the deceased had not been released because family members have not been notified, she said.

Two other passengers were taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where they were treated for minor injuries, Medellin said.
