
The first coronavirus case has landed directly at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, hospital officials said Saturday.
PRMC in Salisbury is now treating a patient with COVID-19. Officials declined to offer details, in an effort to protect the patient’s privacy.
“Please know that we are providing skilled and compassionate care to this patient and it is likely to be the first of many, Community Relations Director Roger Follebout said in a statement.
“Our staff is highly trained and protected with personal protective equipment,” he said. “We encourage you to stay at home and avoid passing or catching this virus.”
The Lower Shore of Maryland total now stands at five known cases, with two in Wicomico, two in Worcester and one in Somerset.
Medical and health officials are urging that anyone who might have symptoms or concerns, call the COVID-19 Information and Triage Line at 410-912-6889.
On Saturday evening, the Worcester County Health Department confirmed the second positive test for a case of COVID-19 in Worcester County.
The patient is a female in her 20s who lives in Worcester County and is recovering at home.
This case is a close household contact of the first positive COVID-19 case in the county, reported earlier this week, and has been in quarantine since known exposure.
Worcester County Health Department is conducting a contact investigation of this second case and appropriate close contacts will have arrangements made for testing if indicated.
Earlier Saturday, the Somerset County Health Department reported that it had received notification that a resident there tested positive for COVID-19. It would be the first confirmed case in Somerset County.
Officials said the patient is a woman in her 60s, and is in good condition and isolating at home.
On Thursday, Wicomico County health officials announced the arrival of the first COVID-19 coronavirus in the immediate area.
Additionally, there has been a case confirmed in Worcester County, as well as Accomack County on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
The Wicomico County case is a 30-year-old man who had recently traveled out of the country, said Wicomico County Health Officer Lori Brewster.
The man was quarantined at home and the Health Department is reaching out to people with whom he has had contact, she said.
