United Way’s goal is $2.2 million as campaign begins

United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore recently held the 13th annual CEO & Coordinator Breakfast to kick-off the 2017 United Way “United We Win” campaign season.

Hosted by Jim Perdue, Chairman of Perdue Farms, the breakfast brought over 250 local business and community leaders together to hear uplifting speeches and updates on United Way’s community impact efforts on the Lower Shore.

Dr. Janet Dudley-Eshbach, President of Salisbury University, opened the event with an official welcome.  Salisbury University generously sponsored this event for the fifth consecutive year, with help from Salisbury University’s Student United Way volunteers.

Remarks from Perdue Farms CEO, Randy Day, United Way Board President, Jim Hartstein, and Campaign Chair, Dana Seiler, officially kicked off the 2017 United Way Campaign with a goal set at $2.2 million.

Keynote speaker, Jon Wolski, best known as Culture Evangelist and Insights Lead at Zappos.com, emphasized the importance of community culture within the workplace and aligning organizations around committable core values.  Wolske encouraged local businesses and community leaders to increase their involvement with United Way.  

Kathleen Mommé, Executive Director of United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore shared, “We are grateful for the opportunity to bring together community leaders and volunteers to show them the united impact we have on the lives of our Lower Eastern Shore neighbors. We fight for the Education, Financial Stability and Health of everyone in our community, and United We Win!”

Following the breakfast, guests participated in an interactive poverty simulation to gain a firsthand look at the struggles many local families face and the impact United Way programs are having in the community. The day concluded with a training session and lunch for campaign coordinators.
