3rd Friday hits winter mode this week

Friday is the next 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury and proves that, even in the winter months, Downtown Salisbury has tons to offer.

The restaurants and shops will all be open with 3rd Friday menu specials and sales, and the bars are ready to rock with live entertainment booked all night long.

Salisbury University/Downtown Campus, on North Division Street, will open two brand new exhibitions this Friday.

Nelson Smith’s Language of Regional Spirit showcases selections the artist’s most recent work that revolves around researching regional landscapes as a source for original images.

The exhibition includes selections from Smith’s studies in Ireland, Portland and Asia.  Also opening on Friday is Travis Childer’s Office Aesthetics a whimsical and frankly quite funny exercise exploring the challenge of transforming something commonplace into a new object, making interesting statements about the world and human nature.

The Art Institute and Gallery will also be opening a brand new show.  All About Color is a multi-media exhibition that accentuates the use of color in art.

Right on time to help us fight off the winter blahs!  Color can be found all around us, at any time of the year and in everything thing we gaze upon, but it’s an artist’s mental capture of color that intrigues and inspires us, and the AIG is excited to see a wide range of submissions that show color in all its ranges.

AIG’s Foyer Gallery Solo Exhibitor is Diane “Diantha” Mitchell of Hebron, MD.  “Diantha” is known for her incredible use of color, depth and detail in her artworks.  “Diantha” draws energies from her culture and activities within her life and that of her family.   The AIG is located on the lower level of the Gallery Building off the Plaza.

The Downtown Bars and Restaurants will have great specials for the dinner crowd, and plenty of entertainment planned for the night.  Roadie Joe’s is ready to party, with a newly renovated interior and live music from Paul Brion for the happy hour crowd, and DJ Rusty Griswald to close out the night.

Brew River will be offering great drink specials and live music from the Keith White Duo at 7pm.  Mojo’s will have Ashley and Valerie behind the bar with DJ VO late night.  Market Street Inn will have Mr. New Years Eve himself, DJ B-Side, and Echelon Southern Bistro will have Smooth Sounds with Suzette Pritchett for the dinner crowd, and the Uprizing at 10pm.

The last remaining 2015 New Years Eve commemorative sweatshirts will also be for sale, in the atrium of Roadie Joe’s Bar and Grill.  Stop by and grab yours before they are gone, and while you’re there, check out the other selections of Bury Apparel, Downtown Salisbury’s very own T-shirt shop.

3F is an all-volunteer effort, a downtown economic development initiative and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District Committee.
