Celebrate Christmas this Sunday in historic Mardela Springs

The popular annual Christmas Heritage Tour of Mardela Springs will take place Sunday beginning at 4 p.m., but a special, new “preview” event will also be held.

A 3K Jingle Bell Run/Walk sponsored by Westside Historical Society will begin at 2 p.m. and end about 4, just in time to join in the town-wide festivities.

The  Run/Walk route will take participants  through and around many of the town’s historic homes, buildings, and sites, perhaps enticing some who do not know about this historic gem in Wicomico’s Westside to return  to tour these attractions in both the Westside Historical Society’s museum and historic church and  the Adkins Historic & Museum Complex of buildings.

Hoping to attract families as well as individual Runners, this will be a Run OR a Walk, if you feel that is more your speed, and either a 3K or longer 5K route.

Families can even register together. Children under 12 are welcomed to join, so long as they are accompanied by an adult.  For a small additional fee, tee shirts will be available to the first 24 adult registrants.

Children will be given jingle bells to wear on their shirts or shoelaces. Prizes will be given to the top runners.

Refreshments will be served to all entrants at the end of the route, and each individual who crosses the finish line will receive a door prize ticket;  drawing for the door prize will be held at 3:45 p.m.  Registration will open at 1 in front of the Barren Creek Heritage Museum at 413 Main St.

Parking will be available near the registration site and on nearby streets, but folks are asked to be careful not to block driveways.

The cost of registration is $15, or $20 with shirt, or $35 for a  family.

At about 2:30 p.m., Westside Historical Society members also will begin offering  a workshop to make natural greenery Christmas decorations;  this will be held near the registration site.

All the greenery and materials will be provided, as well as instruction, but those participating  should bring their own ribbons or other items.  The cost will be $15 for each item made.
