Eastern Electric featured at this week’s 1st Saturday

Sponsored by the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District, 1st Saturday’s August 1 event will featured Eastern Electric, a blues/rock/country band comprised of regional all-stars Nate Clendenen, Sonny Martin, John Sybert, Kyle Coffey, Charlie Greenhalgh, and Joe Esham.

1st Saturday will be held again at Downtown Salisbury’s premier music venue, Headquarters Live, and will run from 4 to 7 p.m.

Eastern Electric is the fifth generation of The Electric Company, which was founded six years ago by Clendenen, Martin, and Sybert on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The band has performed hundreds of shows, traveled thousands of miles, and has released a debut album. Clendenen fronts the band on lead vocals and guitar, Martin is on drums, Coffey is on piano/keys/accordion, Greenhalgh is on bass, and Esham is on pedal steel/lap steel/ percussion/ vocals.

“We’re very excited to host such a talented and influential band this month,” said Sarah Rayne, 1st Saturday co-chair. “We chose to partner again with our friends at Headquarters Live so we can finish out this rainy summer indoors. We will return to our home on the steps of the Government Office Building in September.”

The August intermission act will be Tamara Lee-Brooks, who will minister through liturgical dance.

New this month will be two free, hands-on art projects – one by Amused Studios and one by the Art Institute & Gallery. Amused Studios will also offer Pottery Pong, which has become a staple game at local art events. The cost is $1 per turn.

Be sure to browse the 1st Saturday Arts Market and grab a bite to eat from the Band Wagon.

This month’s charity drive is for the Wicomico County Humane Society. They need peanut butter, cleaning supplies, and canned cat/kitten and dog/puppy food. Drop off a donation at the 1st Saturday table and receive a waterproof sticker for your car.

When 1st Saturday ends, stay Downtown: Browse the shops and have dinner or grab a drink at one of the locally owned and operated restaurants, or check out other music events happening that night! Be sure to check out Mister F w/ Whiskey and Chaos, who will take the Headquarters Live stage at 8 p.m.

South Division Street between Circle Avenue and Market Street will be closed to traffic between 3 and 7 p.m. The area will still be accessible to pedestrians. Plenty of free parking will be available in the parking garage and in Parking Lot 1 in between the library and WMDT.

1st Saturday will provide a free, family-friendly experience for locals while also promoting local business, tourism growth, and community involvement through music and celebration. The event is an all-volunteer effort, a downtown economic development initiative, and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District Committee.

1st Saturday would like to thank its 2015 media sponsors, 47WMDT and the Salisbury Independent, for their support. We’d also like to thank the City of Salisbury and the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, among many others.

Gold Title Sponsorships are still available for the 2015 season. The sponsorships are only $1,000 and include signage on the stage, a table beside the stage, inclusion in all advertising, and recognition at the event. There are also silver and bronze sponsorships available. For more information, visit 1stsaturdaysby.com.
