Salisbury Zoo hosting Earth Day celebration Saturday

The Salisbury Zoo will host its annual Earth Day celebration on Saturday, free and open to the public and featuring events and exhibits.

Planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the event will begin with the 17th annual Zoo Stampede 5K Walk-Race. See salisburyzoo.org.

There will be talks by zookeepers, recycled craft activities, face painting, animal meet and greets and performances by AMP Studios and Ted Nichols’ drum circle.

Old electronics will be collected for recycling. Local companies will discuss ways to reduce energy costs.

The celebration is designed to bring awareness of the environment by showcasing more than 20 earth-friendly organizations including Marine Animal Rescue Program, UMES 4H & USDA, American Association of Zookeepers Chesapeake Chapter, Lower Shore Herb Society, Delmarva Discovery Center, City of Salisbury Recycling, Chincoteague Bay Field Station, Delmarva Discovery Center, Wicomico Humane Society, Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, Coast Kids, MD Department of the Environment, MD Coastal Bays Program, OC Lifesaving Museum, MD Department of Health, Nanticoke Watershed Alliance, University of MD 4-H STEM, Lenape Menatu Nation and AKA Sorority.
