‘Water World’ is theme of this week’s 3rd Friday

3rd Friday will return this week to Downtown Salisbury, with a socially distanced, shopping-focused event.

The event will not feature live music, or additional activities, but will instead focus on providing retail opportunities for local artisans and nonprofits.

An online virtual event will also be held, for those who choose to stay safer at home, complete with artist highlights and messages from the community.

This month’s 3rd Friday will have a “Water World” theme, and will take place on North Division Street from Camden Street by Mogan’s Oyster House down to Church Street by Cake Art, and also down one block of Main Street to Court Street.

Vendor booths will be distanced 10 feet apart, and hand sanitizing stations will be provided.  Facemasks are required, and visitors are asked to maintain a 6-foot social distance whenever possible. Parking and road closures can be expected in the area between 2 and 3 p.m.

Visitors are encouraged to explore some of the many changes going on in Downtown Salisbury.  Check out the latest construction progress on West Main Street or pick up a Public Art Walking Tour pamphlet, made available online and at 3rd Friday to explore the many works of art Downtown.

Wicomico Public Libraries is excited to debut it’s all new Salisbury StoryWalk, a series of interchangeable story boards that begin in front of the Library and then cross over Market Street and run along the Riverwalk to the end where it meets Route 13.

Its first story, “Chadwick and the Garplegrungen,” follows Chadwick the Crab as he leaves his home at the National Aquarium in Baltimore to help clean up the pollution in the Chesapeake Bay, written by Priscilla Cummings and illustrated by A.R. Cohen.

The Salisbury StoryWalk was created by Wicomico Public Libraries and funded by the Chesapeake Bay Trust and the city of Salisbury.

New storefronts are opening!

Check out Lilac Clothing Co. on West Main Street for its end-of-summer sale, with 50 percent off all swimsuits, sun hats and beach towels — and a sidewalk sale with items up to 60 percent off.  Stop in to see their new masks and mask chains locally made Buddy By The Sea Clothing line, and check out their insta photo spots – tag yourself at the shop using #using #shoplilacclothingco for a chance to win a $50 gift card.

Simply Salisbury has re-opened on West Main Street with new hours, and new items and 10 percent off one item on 3rd Friday.

Lurking Class Skate Shop has new digs a few doors up from its previous location, complete with an indoor skate ramp, and Angello’s Scoops will have a special “Under the Sea” Sundae for only $5.

Visitors are also encouraged to carry out or dine-in at one of Downtown Salisbury’s fantastic restaurants — all open and ready to guests.

With this month’s “Water World” theme, community members are encouraged to participate by sending in photography and art inspired by the water.

Submissions will be shared online in the virtual event, and in an event recap e-blast. Local artists and crafters can register for 3rd Friday by emailing a description of their wares to 3rdFridaySBY@gmail.com.

3rd Friday is a Downtown economic development initiative and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District, in partnership with the city of Salisbury.  For More Information:  3rdFridaySby.com.
