Acle, Scott will vie for Wicomico County Council District 2 seat

A previous County Council candidate and the recently appointed council member will face off in a special election this November.

Democrat Alex Scott of Salisbury was a last-minute filer for the District 2 Wicomico County Council seat now occupied by Republican Nicole Acle.

Scott, the owner of The Brick Room in Salisbury, sought the District 2 seat in 2018, losing to incumbent Marc Kilmer. When Kilmer moved out of state, Acle was appointed to the post.

On the Wicomico County Board of Education, meanwhile, Tonya Laird Lewis of Willards was the only candidate to file for the District 3 seat. Lewis was selected by the County Council to fill the seat left empty by the death of David Goslee, who was elected in 2018.

Because this is a presidential election year, the filing deadline was Jan. 24 — far earlier than traditional election years. Maryland’s party primary will be held Tuesday, April 28.

Acle is a Republican. Only Republicans have held the western Wicomico seat since the council was expanded to seven members. School board races are nonpartisan.

Acle is the owner of Medical Nutrition Therapies in Salisbury. She is a former Pennsylvania resident who has lived in Wicomico County for 18 years.

She holds a master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition from Penn State University and a bachelor’s in Dietetics from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Lewis has worked as a substitute teacher. From 2009 to 2012 she was a certified nursing assistant and geriatric nursing assistant, working at Berlin Nursing and Rehab and also worked at Heaven’s Angel Home Care, assisting patients with daily activities and core exercise functions.

She has a bachelor’s in Biology from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and has two children in the public school system.
