District 38C: Carozza racks up big numbers in win over Davis

Mary Beth Carozza, an Ocean City Republican running for the first time in a newly created district, walloped West Ocean City Democrat Judy Davis with 76 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s balloting.

Davis received 26 percent of the vote.

Carozza garnered 11,019 voted to 3,884 for Davis.

Carozza, a former congressional staff member, George W. Bush administration official and aide to former Gov. Bob Ehrlich, rode a platform of cross-party engagement and Shore values to victory.

District 38B includes an overwhelming majority of Worcester County, plus the northern side of western Wicomico County, extending into west Salisbury.

A 53-year-old Catholic University graduate, Carozza’s family operated various businesses in Ocean City and she is well known in Worcester County.

Davis, 58, is a retired special education teacher. She, too, was making a first attempt at a state legislature seat.

During her campaign, she promised to be dedicated, to listen to constituents and to “do what the people want.”
